Arsenal Defeat Chelsea to Keep Title Hope Alive: Three Things We Learned from the Match

Arsenal strengthened their push for the title with a hard-fought 2–1 win over London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from William Saliba and Jurrien Timber secured the victory, while an own goal involving Piero Hincapié briefly brought Chelsea back into the game.

Here are three key lessons from the encounter.

1. Arsenal’s set-piece strength is becoming decisive

Set pieces once again proved to be Arsenal’s biggest weapon. Both goals came from corners, with Saliba opening the scoring in the first half before Timber headed home the winner after the break.

The efficiency highlights how dangerous Arsenal have become in dead-ball situations this season, with several goals coming from similar routines.

The deliveries from players such as Declan Rice have made the difference, turning tight matches into wins. In a title race where margins are small, this tactical advantage could be crucial.

2. Chelsea remain competitive but discipline is a problem

Chelsea showed moments of quality during the match and managed to get back on level terms before halftime. Players like Cole Palmer and João Pedro caused problems for Arsenal’s defence in several spells.

The game changed in the second half when Pedro Neto received a red card, leaving Chelsea with ten men during a crucial period of the contest. That moment made it difficult for them to sustain pressure and ultimately tilted the game in Arsenal’s favour.

3. Arsenal are showing the mentality of title contenders

Even though Arsenal did not dominate the entire match, they showed composure when it mattered. After conceding the equaliser, the team responded well and regained control in the second half.

Manager Mikel Arteta will also be pleased with how his side handled late pressure. Chelsea pushed for another equaliser, but Arsenal’s defence held firm to secure an important three points that strengthened their position at the top of the league table.
