Arsenal edge Brentford to maintain gap over City  as Leeds dismantle Chelsea at Elland Road

Arsenal restored their five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table after a comfortable win over Brentford on Wednesday night.

The Gunners, on the back of the one-all draw against Chelsea came into the derby to get back to winning.

Mikel Merino scored Arsenal’s first goal in the first half with a header off Ben White’s cross from the flanks.

Brentford’s Kevin Schade came close to equalizing a few minutes later but his header came off the bar.

Cristhian Mosquera joined Arsenal’s list of injury worries as the Spanish defender came off injured before the break.

Arsenal started the second half like they ended the first as the Gunners looked to double their lead.

Mikel Merino missed the opportunity to double the lead from a rebound from Declan Rice’s shot.

However, Bukayo Saka, after missing a similar chance, sealed the win in the 90th minute to give the Gunners a 2-0 win as they restored their five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Chelsea suffered their fourth loss of the season as the Blues fell to defeat to Leeds United.

Elland Road was loud and fierce backing the home side as they took a 2-0 lead before the first break.

Slovenian defender, Jaka Bijol had a sublime performance as he scored and provided an assist for Ao Tanaka’s goal.

A howler in Chelsea’s defense gifted Dominic Calvert-Lewin his first goal at Elland Road as Leeds United quashed Chelsea’s attempt to stage a second-half comeback after Pedro Neto’s goal.
