Arsenal are poised to make history by signing Olivia Smith as the first £1 million footballer in women’s football, according to The Guardian.
The Gunners are prepared to pay the record-breaking fee to secure the 20-year-old Canada international from Liverpool.

The transfer will surpass the previous world-record fee set in January when Chelsea signed Naomi Girma for $1.1 million, establishing Smith as the most expensive women’s player. Liverpool had previously turned down offers from Chelsea and Lyon before accepting Arsenal’s bid.
Arsenal, fresh off their Champions League triumph last season, aim to bolster their squad while reducing the team’s overall age profile. Smith, who joined Liverpool from Sporting CP last summer, earned the club’s Player of the Year award for the 2024–25 season after scoring nine goals across all competitions.
If completed, Smith would follow Taylor Hinds, who recently moved from Liverpool to Arsenal on a free transfer earlier this week.
