Arsenal squeeze through Everton keep title charge on, Newcastle triumph at Stamford Bridge

Arsenal secured another important win towards their title charge with less than seven matches to glory.

Two second-half goals from substitutes Viktor Gyokores and 16-year-old forward Max Dowman secured maximum points for Arsenal.

After a long spell of dominance in the second half, the Gunners finally found the breakthrough in the 87th minute through Gyokores who had only the post to beat after Jordan Pickford’s failed clearance.

The English first-choice goalkeeper failed to clear Jack Dowman’s cross into the box which fell to Porto Hincapie before Gyokores tapped the ball into an empty net.

Dowman also had an empty net to beat in the final minutes of added time as the Gunners turned defence into attack from Everton’s corner kick.

Gabriel Martinelli unselfishly passes the ball to Dowman who sprinted with the ball into an empty net with the entire Everton squad far behind him.

It ended 2-0 as Arsenal now have a 10-point lead momentarily over Manchester at the top of the table having played two matches more than their rivals.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s top-four chase hit another setback as the Blues fell to a home loss to Newcastle United.

The Magpies came into the match after a commendable performance against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea, on the back of a heavy loss to PSG in Paris sought to keep their top four chase on course.

However, Anthony Gordon’s 18th-minute goal – on a platter from Joe Willock made the difference on the night for the visitors.

Chelsea’s comical defending came to bear once again as a defence-splitting pass from deep cut through the defence line before Willock beat Sanchez and laid a pass to Gordon who tapped the ball into the net.

Chelsea currently occupies the fifth spot on the log with 48 points from 30 matches.
