Colin Udoh, an ESPN journalist, has dismissed the retirement rumours of Super Falcons veteran striker Asisat Oshoala.
A Facebook page with the player’s name claimed that the striker will retire from the national team after the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The news circulated on social media on the eve of Super Falcons’ semi-final clash against defending champion, South Africa.
However, Colin Udoh, who spoke to the player, revealed that the news is fake and misleading. He added that the player is also surprised at the rumour, which got fans talking online.
Colin Udoh addressed the rumour in a video he posted on his X page on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, Asisat Oshoala has come under criticism for her performance at the tournament, as a section of fans online believe she is past her prime.
Oshoala came off the bench in the 5-0 quarter-final win over Zambia, but her underwhelming performance aggravated calls for her to be dropped.
However, the six-time Women’s African Footballer of the Year remains an integral part of the team, having won the competition three times.
Oshoala scored Nigeria’s opening goal of the tournament in the 3-0 win over Tunisia on July 6th, 2025.
