Barcelona advances to Super Cup final with win against Bilbao

In a commanding performance on Wednesday night, FC Barcelona secured a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The match saw Barcelona’s young talents shine brightly. Gavi opened the scoring in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a precise pass from Álex Balde. Early in the second half, Lamine Yamal doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, following an assist from Gavi.

Athletic Bilbao endeavored to mount a comeback, managing to find the net twice; however, both attempts were ruled out for offside. Barcelona’s defense remained resolute, ensuring a clean sheet and progression to their third consecutive Super Cup final.

This victory also coincided with favorable news off the pitch for Barcelona. The Consejo Superior de Deportes granted a provisional measure allowing players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor to participate in the upcoming final, following previous uncertainties regarding their registrations.

Barcelona now awaits the outcome of the second semifinal between Real Madrid and Mallorca to determine their opponent for the final scheduled on Sunday. The team aims to replicate their success from the 2022/23 season, where they clinched the Super Cup title with a 3-1 victory over Real Madrid.
