In a Bundesliga match on Saturday, Bayer Leverkusen secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park.
Despite the impressive win, an on-field altercation between teammates Victor Boniface and Emiliano Buendía overshadowed the performance.
The incident occurred late in the game when both players attempted to convert the same scoring opportunity. Their miscommunication led to a heated exchange, with Boniface raising his index finger at Buendía and pushing the Argentine midfielder. Teammates quickly intervened to separate the two.
Boniface, who has been benched for the third consecutive game following a failed transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, has struggled to find his form. His frustration was evident in this confrontation.
Head coach Xabi Alonso addressed the situation post-match, downplaying its significance. “He (Boniface) wanted to score a goal. It’s not a problem. We’ll talk about it. The most important thing is the team, the performance, and the result,” Alonso stated, emphasizing that such passion is normal in football.
Despite the incident, Leverkusen’s dominant performance solidifies their position as they sit second in the league, as they aim for a top spot in the Bundesliga.
