Ajax Amsterdam are reportedly close to signing Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Football transfers expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the Perenial Dutch champions are on the verge of signing the striker on loan with an option to buy for over €20m.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development in a tweet on Monday afternoon.
Arokodare has been previously linked to Trabzonspor and Fiorentina as his future at the Midlands looked uncertain after a poor first season at Wolves following his arrival from Genk for €26 million.
Wolves have already frozen Arokodare out of first-team training, and reporter Nathan Judah says the striker is set to miss the club’s next fixture. The breakdown follows a disappointing debut season in England, where Arokodare managed just six goals in 38 appearances before Wolves were relegated from the Premier League.
Arokodare’s dressing room row with Matheus Mane last season and the training ground incident during pre-season, where he reportedly refused to leave the training ground, are believed to have contributed to the striker’s fate at the club.
Standing at 1.97 metres, Arokodare’s physical profile is the appeal for Ajax, who want a different kind of forward option alongside Marcos Leonardo following Kasper Dolberg’s expected departure.
Arokodare is set to join a list of Nigerian players to have played for Ajax Amsterdam, including Finidi George, Kanu Nwankwo, Celestine Babayaro, and Calvin Bassey.
