Aston Villa has appointed former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new head coach, the deal is a three and half year contract.

Gerrard started his coaching career from Liverpool’s youth team in 2017 before moving to Rangers as their head coach in 2018 where he signed a four year deal. Two years later in 2020/21 season the former England international won the Scottish Premier League unbeaten and had back to back wins over arch rivals Celtic. That title was their first after ten years, putting an end to Celtic’s dominance of the league.

Ranger’s 40 games unbeaten run in the SPL came to an end after losing away to Dundee United in August 2021 a run of form that lasted over a season. Gerrard also always qualified his side for UEFA competitions during his time with Rangers.

Gerrard will be taking over from Dean Smith who was fired few days ago after a poor run of form losing five straight games. Aston Villa are currently placed 16th on the table and are really struggling at the moment. Gerrard has a lot of work to do with his new team in terms of results, making the new players gel and getting the team back on track. He also has some tough games ahead : Brighton (H), Crystal Palace (A), Manchester City (H), Leicester City (H) and Liverpool (A).
