Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, in a move worth around €10 million. The Brazilian forward will sign a two-year contract at the Camp Nou, with an option to extend for a further year.
The move brings an end to Jesus’s four-year spell in north London, a period disrupted by persistent injury problems that limited his impact under Mikel Arteta. Barcelona now step in to secure his services at a fraction of the fee Arsenal paid Manchester City for him back in 2022.
During his time at the Emirates, Jesus racked up 21 goals and 11 assists in 84 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, numbers that reflect a player capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch, even if injuries repeatedly disrupted his rhythm and consistency at the club.
The move comes as something of a plan B for Hansi Flick’s side. Barcelona had made Julian Alvarez their primary striker target this summer, but Atletico Madrid stood firm in their refusal to sell the Argentine, forcing the Catalan club to redirect their attention toward alternative options up front.
With Robert Lewandowski having already departed the club, Barcelona have been searching for fresh firepower to lead their attack, and Jesus now arrives to provide competition and depth in that department. His versatility, having operated both as a central striker and from wide areas throughout his career, gives Flick added tactical flexibility.
For Arsenal, the sale continues a reshuffling of their forward line, freeing up space and wages as Arteta looks to fine-tune his attacking options.
Barcelona will be hoping Jesus can rediscover the sharp, direct form that made him such a coveted forward during his time in the Premier League, as the club looks to bolster its options heading into a demanding season across LaLiga and the Champions League.
