Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal have reached an agreement for the transfer of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres after weeks of negotiation between both clubs.
Viktor Gyökeres joins the Gunners, being his preferred choice despite strong interest from Manchester United and other clubs in Europe.
After back and forth as regards his transfer fee, Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal finally agreed on a €63.5m plus €10m fee.
The 27-year-old striker will sign a five-year deal with Arsenal, making him Mikel Arteta’s sixth summer signing of the season.
Gyökeres leaves Sporting Lisbon after a remarkable individual season, where he bagged 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions.
The Swedish international returns to England after spending four seasons in the English Championship with Swansea and Coventry City between 2020 and 2023.
Viktor Gyökeres spent just two seasons at Sporting Lisbon and led Ruben Amorim’s former side to two Primera Liga titles and one Taça de Portugal title, scoring 97 goals in 102 matches.
Gyökeres will spearhead Mikel Arteta’s attack as they look to win major honours at the end of the 2025/2026 football season.
