Brighton and Hove Albion produced a spectacular performance on Saturday afternoon to end Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season. The Seagulls put three unanswered goals past the Gunners at the Amex Stadium and handed the champions their first defeat of the campaign heading into the international break.

Pascal Gross opened the scoring in the 31st minute, curling a shot in off the post from the edge of the box. Teenager Charalampos Kostoulas then doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time with another long-range strike. Summer signing Chema Andres, playing his first Premier League start, headed in a corner in the 57th minute to make it 3-0. Arsenal had more of the ball but created little, and Kai Havertz’s one-on-one chance was saved by Bart Verbruggen. The defeat drops Mikel Arteta’s side to 12 points and behind Manchester City on goal difference. Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton have 11 points and sit third.

In other results, Newcastle United got back to winning as they ended Hull City’s fairytale run while Everton secured a slim win over Ipswich Town. Thierno Barry’s early goal gave Everton a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Barry scored after 11 minutes when he diverted James Tarkowski’s long-range effort past Christian Walton.

Barrythought he had added a second after the break, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside. Ipswich finished with ten men after Abdul Fatawu was sent off in the 67th minute for a second yellow card, given for simulation. Everton could not add to their lead, but Jordan Pickford kept a clean sheet, and David Moyes’s side extended their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions.

Newcastle United bounced back from Monday’s 4-1 defeat at Leeds by beating newly promoted Hull City 2-1 at St James’ Park. Joe Willock scored in the third minute and Lewis Hall added a second in the seventh. Yoane Wissa missed the chance to make it 3-0 when Konstantinos Tzolakis saved his penalty in first-half stoppage time. Mohamed-Ali Cho pulled one back for Hull in the 67th minute and set up a nervy finish.
