Manchester United are making moves early in the summer transfer window, despite a disappointing season that saw them miss out on European competition.
The Red Devils have already secured Wolverhampton’s Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million and are now frontrunners to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroonian winger, also linked with Arsenal and Newcastle, reportedly prefers a move to Old Trafford.

According to The Times, Mbeumo is eyeing a massive pay rise, from £50,000 per week at Brentford to £250,000 at United. Despite last season’s struggles, United’s hefty wage bill gives them an edge in landing top targets like Mbeumo, who notched 20 goals and eight assists in the Premier League last term.
However, sealing the deal won’t be easy. United needs to trim its wage bill, and high earners like Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, both on £300,000 per week, need to move on.
The Times reports no European clubs are willing to match those salaries, making loan deals the likeliest option unless Rashford or Sancho accept pay cuts for permanent exits. Barcelona are interested in Rashford, while Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund admire Sancho.
