Bundesliga Roundup: Dortmund edge past Mainz to keep pace with leaders Bayern

Borussia Dortmund secured a professional 2-0 victory away to Mainz, maintaining their spot just two points behind table-toppers Bayern Munich.

Dortmund navigated the fixture without star striker Serhou Guirassy, who missed out with a leg problem.

Julian Brandt expertly marshalled the attack in his absence, setting up Daniel Svensson for the opener before combining with Karim Adeyemi for the second goal—Adeyemi’s second in as many games. Mainz’s day went from bad to worse when goalkeeper Robin Zentner was sent off in the 67th minute.

Coach Niko Kovač praised his side’s drive, noting: “We have to maintain the consistency that we have today… We’re on a good path.” Dortmund remains the only other unbeaten team in the league.

10-Goal Spectacle Sees Frankfurt Win

In the highest-scoring match of the day, Eintracht Frankfurt earned a dramatic 6-4 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach away from home. Frankfurt delivered a devastating first-half display, storming to a commanding 6-0 lead before their opponents could react.

Robin Koch was the unlikely scorer of a brace, with Ansgar Knauff, Jonathan Burkardt, Fares Chaibi, and Can Uzun also finding the net.

Despite a late fightback that saw Gladbach score four times, the result was never truly in doubt. Frankfurt will carry this potent form into their UEFA Champions League clash against Atlético Madrid next week.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen secured a narrow 2-1 win at St. Pauli, extending their record to 36 Bundesliga away games without a loss, but the victory was dampened by a late injury suffered by forward Patrik Schick.

Elsewhere, Johan Bakayoko’s early goal was enough for RB Leipzig to edge out Wolfsburg 1-0, and Heidenheim defeated Augsburg 2-1 at home.
