Serhou Guirassy continued his prolific form, scoring again as Borussia Dortmund defeated 10-man Heidenheim 2-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
The Guinea international headed in the opener in the 33rd minute to take his tally to four goals in three games, with Maximilian Beier adding the second before halftime.
Heidenheim’s challenge was made even tougher by an early injury to defender Leart Pacarada and a red card for Budu Zivzivadze.
Elsewhere, the German Cup champion, Stuttgart, had another disappointing outing, slumping to a 3-1 loss at Freiburg. Despite taking the lead through a clever heel-flick from Ermedin Demirović, Stuttgart was unable to hold on.
Freiburg, which had lost its first two games while conceding seven goals, struck back with a pair of goals from Igor Matanović and another from Derry Scherhant to secure the comeback win. Stuttgart has now lost two of its opening three games.
In Munich, Bayern warmed up for their Champions League opener against Chelsea by routing Hamburger SV 5-0. The goals came fast and furious, with Serge Gnabry scoring in the third minute and Harry Kane setting up Aleksandar Pavlović just six minutes later.
Kane then converted a penalty, and Luis Díaz made it 4-0 before the half-hour mark, with Hamburg’s goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes preventing an even bigger scoreline.
