In a thrilling quarter-final match of the TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) today, Burkina Faso secured a dominant 6–1 victory over Zambia, advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Mohamed Fofana opened the scoring early, and Souleymane Tapsoba netted a hat-trick, including two penalties. Issouf Diakité added a brace as the Young Stallions overpowered a lacklustre Zambian side. Abel Salim Nyirongo scored Zambia’s lone goal.
The highlight of the game came after Burkina Faso’s second goal, when the team celebrated with a choreographed routine inspired by international football stars Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior.
The players mimicked Mbappé’s and Vinícius Júnior’s signature celebration, delighting fans and paying homage to their football idols.
With this win, Burkina Faso progressed to the ssemi-finals having secured qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, marking a significant achievement for the team and their supporters.
