AFCON 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the groupings for the upcoming 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following a draw held today at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from April 27 to May 18, 2025, in Egypt.
The 13 qualified teams have been divided into three groups: one group of five teams and two groups of four. The draw was conducted based on team performances in the previous edition of the tournament.
Group A:
– Egypt (hosts), Zambia, South Africa, Tanzania, Sierra Leone.
Group B:
– Nigeria, Morocco, Kenya, Tunisia
Group C:
– Senegal (defending champions), Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic.
The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.
The four semifinalists will secure qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, set to be held in Chile from September 27 to October 19, 2025.
Group B has been labeled the “Group of Death,” featuring strong contenders Nigeria, Morocco, Kenya, and Tunisia. Defending champions Senegal will face a challenging Group C, competing against Ghana, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic.
The tournament promises exciting matches as young talents from across the continent vie for the prestigious title and a spot on the global stage.
