Playing at home, Dortmund entered the second leg with a commanding 3-0 lead from the first match. The German side maintained control throughout the match, with Sporting Lisbon struggling to create significant opportunities.
A notable moment occurred in the second half when Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy missed a penalty after Karim Adeyemi was fouled in the box before Emre Can saw his goal disallowed for offisde minutes later.
Despite the miss, Dortmund’s aggregate lead remained unthreatened, and they comfortably progressed to the next round.
PSV’s Dramatic Comeback Against Juventus
In Eindhoven, PSV faced a challenging task, trailing 2-1 from the first leg against Juventus. The Dutch champions equalized the aggregate score in the 53rd minute with a goal from Ivan Perišić.
Juventus briefly regained the advantage through Timothy Weah, whose goal showcased his talent but ultimately wasn’t enough to secure progression. PSV responded with a goal from Ismael Saibari, leveling the aggregate once more.
The decisive moment came in extra time when Ryan Flamingo netted in the 98th minute, sealing PSV’s 4-3 aggregate triumph and eliminating the Italian giants from the competition.
