Morocco clinched a narrow 1-0 win against Tanzania in the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 quarterfinal on Friday at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Oussama Lamlioui’s clinical 65th-minute strike secured the victory for the two-time champions (2018, 2020), knocking out co-hosts Tanzania and propelling Morocco into the semifinals.
The Atlas Lions’ disciplined performance ensured they maintained their lead despite Tanzania’s late push.
Earlier, Madagascar edged Kenya 4-3 in a thrilling penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw persisted through extra time.
Heriniaina Toky Bienvenu Randrianirina’s missed penalty raised concerns, but Kenya faltered with consecutive misses from Alphonce Omija and Michael Evans Kibwage on their fourth and fifth attempts, allowing Madagascar to advance to the last four in a gripping encounter.
Madagascar will face the winner of Sudan vs Algeria, while Morocco will come up against the winner of Uganda versus defending champion Senegal.
