Khamzat Chimaev delivered a dominant performance at UFC 319 in Chicago, overwhelming reigning champion Dricus du Plessis to claim the UFC middleweight title.
From the opening moments, Chimaev imposed his will, securing takedowns in every round and keeping du Plessis pinned under relentless pressure.
Over five rounds, he maintained control for more than 80 percent of the fight, landing over 500 strikes while neutralizing any attempt from the South African to turn the momentum.

All three judges scored the contest 50-44, reflecting a near shutout. The victory extended Chimaev’s unbeaten record to 15-0 and confirmed his rise as one of the UFC’s most feared forces.
In his post-fight remarks, he praised his opponent’s resilience, calling du Plessis “a real African lion,” while the former champion admitted he was beaten by the better man on the night but vowed to return stronger.
The event itself was historic, marking the UFC’s return to Chicago after six years and setting a new revenue record at the United Center.
Chimaev’s triumph not only crowned him the new middleweight champion but also signaled the beginning of what could be a dominant reign in the division.
