Chris Wood and Anthony Elanga were on fire as Nottingham Forest annihilated Brighton on Saturday afternoon at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest suffered an embarrassing 5-0 defeat at Bournemouth last week but took vengeance on Brighton today at lunchtime kick-off.

The City Ground, loud and vociferous as ever enjoyed every moment as the Tricky Trees put five goals past the Seagulls.

While Chris Wood bagged a hat trick of goals, Anthony Elanga recorded a hat trick of assists as the duo combined effectively on the afternoon.

Nottingham Forest took the lead early in the game via an unfortunate Lewis Dunk’s own goal as Morgan Gibbs-White tried to lay a pass to Chris Wood in the box.

Moments later, Morgan Gibbs-White met Anthony Elanga’s cross into the box with a header which landed inside the roof of the net to double the lead.

Matz Sels once again responded to danger as he punched Danny Welbeck’s shot into the air just before the break.

Nottingham Forest resumed with renewed momentum in the second half and increased the lead to four in the 64th minute.

Anthony Elanga placed a nice pass in the box to Chris Wood who buried a low shot into the back of the net.

Chris Wood bagged his hat trick on in the 70th minute from the penalty spot.

The Tricky Trees still hungry for more surged forward and got more goals.

Neco Williams found himself in the right place at the right time as he pounced on a rebound to increase the lead to six.

Mart Verbruggen gifted Jota Silva the ball form a howler and the Portuguese forward gladly smashed the ball into the net to complete the 7-0 annihilation.

The win is Nottingham Forest biggest in the league after the 7-0 thrashing of Chelsea in April 1991.

Meanwhile, the loss is Brighton’s heaviest league defeat since a 9-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on the opening day of the 1958-59 season in the second division.
