Chuba Akpom is following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Victor Osimhen, as he scored another goal for Lille.
Akpom scored late in the match to give Lille a 2-0 victory over Rennes away from home on Sunday night.
It was quite a dramatic night for the 29-year-old striker on loan from Ajax Amsterdam as he could have bagged a hat trick.
The former Arsenal academy graduate missed the chance to give Lille the lead as he missed a penalty just before the first-half break.
Chuba Akpo eventually scored in the 68-minute from a rebound to give Lille the lead.
However, the video assistant referee disallowed it for an offside in the build-up to the goal.
Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb gave Lille the lead in the 80th minute from a rebound after a melee in the box.
Determined to get on the score sheet, Akpom found himself in space and received a nice pass before burying the ball into the bottom-right corner.
Chuba Akpom has now scored two goals in two Ligue 1 appearances and is following in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, who scored the same number of goals in his first two matches while at Lille.
Akpom like Osimhen against Nantes in 2019 scored on his debut against Le Have in a 2-1 home loss.
