Nigeria’s brightest footballing prospects, Flying Eagles captain Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court in Norway.
The 19-year-old Molde FK midfielder was found guilty on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, of committing a sexual act without consent, an offence under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code. Along with the custodial sentence, the court ordered Daga to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner (approximately ₦1.45 million) in legal costs.

The verdict follows a legal saga that began in late April 2025. Daga, who joined Molde in January 2025 and quickly became a key figure with 17 appearances and 3 goals, has been suspended from all club activities since the charges were formalised last December.
Molde FK chairman Odd Ivar Moen, who has previously described the case as “extremely demanding for everyone involved,” confirmed the club’s stance following the verdict.
We are aware of the verdict, and the player will not be participating in matches for the time being
Despite the conviction, Daga’s legal team maintains his innocence, insisting that the encounter was entirely consensual. His lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, noted that the player is “deeply disappointed” and “very upset” by the court’s decision.
He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent. The verdict is not legally binding yet. He should be treated like anyone else until the case is finalized
The defense has confirmed they intend to challenge the ruling, meaning the legal battle is far from over.
