Head coach of Nigeria men’s senior football team, Eric Chelle has revealed what he intends to do ahead of the Unity Cup invitation and the friendly matches afterwards.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will defend their title this summer at the Valley Stadium in London and the Franco-Malian manager has unveiled how he intends to approach the competition.
Eric Chelle said the Unity Cup is an opportunity to give new players the opportunity to fight for a place in the national team.
He revealed that he will extend invitations tomokaters whom were previously invited but didn’t get the opportunity to play for the team.
Chelle Aloo said he will give deserving players in the Nigeria Premier Football League the opportunity to also compete in the competition. The Unity Cup provides a platform to assess new players. I will comb Europe and invite new players of Nigerian descent, alongside those who were previously called up but never got the chance to feature. Top players from the Nigeria Premier Football League will also be considered, as I will be watching a number of domestic league games from now until the end of the season.”
For the friendly matches against Portugal and Poland in June, Chelle said he will use his first team players as he considers them an opportunity to move up in the FIFA rankings.
“For the big warm-up games in June against Poland and Portugal, I will feature my first team players. These are games that can push us up the global ranking if we win them.”
The Super Eagles will take on Zimbabwe and probably Jamaica or India as they look to win the title for the third time next month.
