Super Eagles home-based team, otherwise known as the “CHAN Eagles,” played out a draw against Zanzibar in their final warm-up match ahead of next month’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN).
Eric Chelle’s CHAN Eagles took on Zanzibar for the second time in four days on Thursday afternoon after the first encounter ended goalless.
The CHAN Eagles started the match with great intent as they took a two-goal lead in the opening half-hour, heading into the break.
Last season’s Nigeria Professional Football League top scorer, Nasarawa United’s Anas Yusuf, gave Nigeria the lead before Remo Stars’ Adedayo Olamilekan doubled it a few minutes later.
Nigeria took a comfortable lead into the half-time break after an impressive display.
Unfortunately, the CHAN Eagles failed to keep a clean sheet, nor could they see out the win as Zanzibar halved the deficit and restored parity before the end of regulation time.
The match ended in a two-all draw as Eric Chelle’s men head into the tournament on a disappointing note.
Nigeria will take on defending champions, Senegal, in their Group D opener on August 5.
