Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland, is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract that will make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League, surpassing his teammate Kevin De Bruyne.
Currently, De Bruyne takes home a whopping £425,000 per week, but Haaland’s new deal could see him earn even more.
As it stands, Haaland’s basic salary is £375,000 per week, which already puts him close to the top of Europe’s highest earners, but this new deal is expected to make him the highest earner.
Haaland’s stock skyrocketed during his stint with Borussia Dortmund before Manchester City snapped him in July 2022 by triggering his release clause. The 24-year-old has scored goals for fun at almost every club he has represented and has started the 2024/25 season on fire, finding the back of the net seven times in only three Premier League games.
While Haaland’s current contract with Manchester City runs out in three years, the Premier League champions want to reward him with a new deal that justifies his billing as one of the best players in the world.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the new contract will likely contain a release clause, which could offer Real Madrid and Barcelona an opportunity to land the Norwegian in the future.
