Everton have sacked manager Sean Dyche just two years after joining the Merseyside club.
The surprise announcement came just hours before the team’s crucial FA Cup clash with Peterborough.
In a statement on the club’s website, Everton announced that under-18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman would take over first-team affairs on an interim basis while the search for a new manager begins.
Here are 3 reasons why the new owners have decided to sack Dyche
1. New Ownership
The new owners, the Friedkin Group, appear to have lost patience with Dyche after failing to win a Premier League fixture since early December.
2. Relegation fears
A five-game winless streak has left Everton precariously close to the bottom of the league table, with only one point separating them from Ipswich in 18th place.
3. Style of play
The fans have been crying out for a more expansive style of play, and Dyche’s deep block, backs-to-the-wall style has become outdated.
In an effort to turn their season around, the club has opted to bring in a new manager. The search for Dyche’s replacement is now underway.
