A Spanish court sentenced Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti to one year in prison for evading taxes on his image rights income in 2014, during his tenure as Real Madrid manager, according to a statement.
According to the Independent, Ancelotti, who managed Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015 and from 2021 to 2025, was acquitted of a similar charge in 2015, as the court could not confirm he resided in Spain long enough to incur tax obligations.
After Real Madrid sacked him in May 2015, he moved to London before joining Bayern Munich in 2016. Under Spanish law, sentences under two years for non-violent crimes by first-time offenders are typically suspended, likely sparing Ancelotti jail time.
He was accused of misleading the tax office to avoid paying over €1 million in income tax. The Madrid court also fined him €386,000. Prosecutors had sought a four-year, nine-month prison term and a €3.2 million fine.
