Former Super Eagles midfielder Slyvanus Okpala has offered some words of advice to Victor Boniface on his goalscoring challenge for the national team.
Okpala believes that the Bayer Leverkusen striker can help the team in other areas if the goals are not forthcoming.
The former midfielder also advised that the backroom staff of the Super Eagles need to work closely with Boniface to help his confidence in a recent chat with Brila.net
“Osimhen comes in and scores. When Osimhen isn’t there, Boniface doesn’t score,” Okpala said.
“He needs to be talked to, given a lot of confidence, and reminded that as a center forward, his primary role is to score. If he can’t score, then he should start providing assists.”
Okpala advises that the striker needs to be calm and not anxious because once he scores the first, the nunbers will keep growing.
“He shouldn’t be too anxious to score in every game. Yes, scoring is crucial, but he needs to stay calm. When you count one, you can get to two.
“Once he starts scoring, the confidence will return. It’s normal. Bayer Leverkusen is different from the national team.”
Victor Boniface has made 11 appearances for the Super Eagles without a goal but remains an integral part of the team.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker is currently injured and will be out until the new year.
