Manchester United’s season is gradually going from bad to worse as the Reds exit the FA Cup in the third round.
The Red Devils fell to a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford to Brighton and Hove Albion courtesy of goals from Brajan Gruda and former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck.
Manchester United started the tie pretty well as Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes forced saves off Jason Steele in the early exchanges.
However, Brajan Gruja took advantage of a melee in Manchester United’s goal area to put the Seagulls ahead in the 12th minute.
Danny Welbeck almost doubled the lead two minutes later but Senne Lemmens made a good save to deny the 35-year-old.
Welbeck got his eighth goal against Manchester United as he powered a left footed strike into the roof of the net to double Brighton’s lead.
Benjamin Sesko scored his third goal in three matches for the Red Devils as he met Bruno Fernandes’s cross from a corner with a near-post header.
Manchester United’s attempt to restore parity late in the game was hampered by Academy product, Shea Lacey who got his second yellow card within five minutes.
The tie ended 2-1 as the Seag3bagged their first-ever win in the FA Cup over Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Arsenal got the better of Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon as the Gunners crushed the home side at Fratton Park.
Gabriel Martinelli bagged a hat trick as Mikel Arteta’s men progressed to the fifth round with a 4-1 win.
