FA Cup: Taiwo Awoniyi scores as Nottingham Forest edge Exeter on penalties

Taiwo Awoniyi scored his second goal of the season in Nottingham Forest’s two-all draw away at Exeter in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Super Eagles forward gave the Tricky Trees the lead in the 37th minute Ramon Sosa’s equalizer in the 17th.

Josh Magennis have the home side a dream start with a fifth minute opener.

The English striker took advantage of Carlos Miguel’s blunder and smashed the ball home to give Exeter an early lead.

Ramon Sosa equalized for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men about 10 minutes later from low drive in the box which landed in the back of the net.

Exeter goalkeepeer Joe Whitworth saved Taiwo Awoniyi’s long range strike moments later as Nottingham Forest put the host under siege.

Joe Whitworth, couldn’t save Awoniyi’s second attempt at goal as the Nigerian Forward unleashed a strike from the edge of the box with his left foot to give the visitors the lead.

Ibrahim Sangare was fantastic on the night as he provided assists to both goals.

Exeter came out strong early in the second half and almost equalized five minutes after the restart.

Carlo Miguel made a glorious save to deny Angus McDonald’s header from landing inside the net.

Josh Magennis got his second goal on the net with rebound to being Exeter level after 50 minutes of football at St. James Park.

Joe Whitworth kept Exeter in the game until the penalty shootout as he made a couple of saves to deny Nottingham Forest from sealing a winner before the end of regular and extra time.

Unfortunately, the 20-year-old couldn’t make a save during the shootout neither could his teammates help in converting their spot kicks as Nottingham Forest progressed into the fifth round 4-2 on penalties.
