The Super Eagles of Nigeria are now ranked 39th overall and sixth in Africa, according to the most recent FIFA rankings, which were made public on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

Even though Nigeria is still one of the strongest football teams in Africa, their little decline in points from 1498.93 to 1498.02.

The recent drop has caused Nigeria to slide out of the top five on the continent, with Tunisia surpassing them.

Morocco continues to lead in Africa

The highest-ranked team in Africa is the Atlas Lions of Morocco, who had a fantastic 2022 World Cup campaign.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped to sixth in Africa as the AFCON 2025 draw approaches.

Despite earning four points from their most recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Nigeria’s decline can be ascribed to a little point reduction perhaps from the previous international break where they played out a draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

In Uyo, the Super Eagles defeated Benin 2-0, while in Kigali, they were held by Rwanda.

The aforementioned outcomes were respectable, they didn’t significantly raise Nigeria’s profile.

Nigeria’s highest position in the FIFA world rankings came in April 1994, when it was ranked first in Africa and fifth in the world.
