Nigerian internationals Kelechi Iheanacho and Lesley Ugochukwu were among the star attractions at a grassroots football event in Imo State, as the duo returned to connect with young footballers in the community.
Iheanacho, who currently plays for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, was seen wearing the number 47 shirt, while Burnley midfielder Ugochukwu stood out with his trademark braided hairstyle as they posed alongside aspiring footballers.
Born in Imo State, Iheanacho has enjoyed a successful career that has taken him from Manchester City’s academy to spells with Leicester City, Sevilla and Middlesbrough before completing a move to Celtic in 2025. The Super Eagles forward remains one of Nigeria’s most experienced attackers, having represented the national team for several years.
Ugochukwu, meanwhile, has Nigerian roots despite being born in France. The 22-year-old midfielder came through the ranks at Stade Rennais before joining Chelsea in 2023. Following a loan spell at Southampton, he secured a permanent move to Burnley in 2025, where he continues his development as one of the team’s promising midfielders.
Although Ugochukwu has represented France at youth level, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria, with many fans hopeful he could one day switch his international allegiance to the Super Eagles.
