Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has endured a slow start to life in Werder Bremen after a loan move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
The player’s fitness and weight concern appear to have slowed down his progress at the Bundesliga club.
However, Werder Bremen’s Managing Director of Professional Football, Clemens Fritz, has confirmed that the club is already looking to help the striker overcome the twin challenge.
Victor Boniface is yet to find the back of the net neither has started a game for Werder Bremen but has registered an assist in four matches this season.
“Together with Victor, we have clearly identified the issues and are supporting him from all angles,” Fritz told BILD.
“This includes athletic training, physiotherapy, and also nutrition with appropriate advice. We are working closely with him. He accepts our support and wants to work on himself.
Victor Boniface is reportedly overweight – a condition linked to a combination of his high-calorie diet and genetics.
Nevertheless, Fritz says Victor Boniface has been working very hard in training and also making extra effort personally.
The 25-year-old striker was left out of Eric Chelle’s squad for the October window of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic as the Super Eagles cliched a spot in the playoffs.
