Aliyu Zubairu, coach of Nigeria’s Under-20 national men’s football team, the Flying Eagles, says the team will perform better than in their previous matches when they take on Kenya in their final group match on Wednesday.
Zubairu spoke to the sports crew on Sportszone, Lagos Talks 91.3, on Wednesday morning, reacting to questions about the team and what Nigerians should expect.
When asked why the Flying Eagles have been struggling to score goals in the tournament, Zubairu says it is a challenge that he and his technical staff are working on, and the game against Kenya will see the team score goals.
The Flying Eagles have managed just a goal in two matches since the start of the tournament – the sole goal against Tunisia in their opening match fixture in Group B, while the second match against Morocco ended in a stalemate.
Aliyu Zubairu says the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, is with the team and has worked tirelessly to provide adequate welfare and support for the team in Egypt.
The Flying Eagles will take on Kenya as they look to top their group with seven points and also progress to the last eight of the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Morocco are tied on points with the Flying Eagles, but the young Atlas Lions top Group C with a better goal difference ahead of their final group match against Tunisia.
