Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have returned to the country after crashing out of the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
The Flying Eagles campaign came to end on Wednesday after losing to six-time champions of the competition, Argentina.
Argentina, on course for a record seventh title, took apart Aliyu Zabairu’s men in a 4-0 demolition in Santiago on Wednesday afternoon.
The Flying Eagles and its officials arrived Nigeria on Saturday evening after a disappointing campaign in Chile.
Since 2005, the Flying Eagles haven’t played in the final of the competition despite competing in six editions since then.
In the 1985 edition, the Flying Eagles finished third after beating the now defunct Soviet Union 3-1 on penalties.
Four years later, Nigeria beat the Soviet Union again but this time in the quarter-finals – a match fondly referred to as “The Miracle of Dammam.”
