Football commentator tells club to let Super Eagles striker rest ahead of derby.

Veli Yigit, a popular Turkish football commentator, has advised Galatasaray to let Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen rest ahead of the Turkish derby this weekend against Basaksehir.

Yigit believes Osimhen is already tired after playing over 170 minutes for the Super Eagles during the international window against Lesotho and Benin Republic.

Victor Osimhen played an immense role, providing an assist against Lesotho and a hat-trick against the Benin Republic, as the Super Eagles secured a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.

Ahead of the Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Istanbul Basaksehir, Veli Yigit has advised Okan Buruk to rest Osimhen and start Argentine striker, Mauro Icardi instead.

The football commentator shared his opinion ahead of the tie tomorrow.

“I don’t think Osimhen should be in the starting eleven for the Başakşehir match. He’s been through a tiring period, he’s tired after national team duty,” Yigit was quoted as saying by habersarikirmizi.com.

“Plus, Icardi needs to be in the starting eleven to boost his morale.”

He also added that Osimhen has put the transfer fee paid for his services behind him and his fully focused on scoring goals.

“I see Osimhen very happy. His complete focus is on Galatasaray. He no longer has thoughts like ‘Where will I go?

“What will my contract be like?’ These details are important. I expect a performance beyond the top level from him.”

Victor Osimhen has six goals and an assist in all competitions and will look to draw inspiration from his hat trick to get more goals for Galatasaray as club football resumes.
