The 2025 summer transfer window closed today with a flurry of high-profile deals that reshaped the European football landscape.

From Liverpool’s record-breaking spree to Real Madrid’s defensive reinforcements, the window was defined by big money, bold decisions, and strategic squad overhauls.

Here are the five most significant transfers that captured global attention.

1. Alexander Isak → Liverpool (~£130m with add-ons)

In the most expensive deal of the window, Liverpool prised Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a move worth around £130m including add-ons.

The Swedish striker’s arrival (still awaiting official confirmation) underscores the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level. Tall, quick, and clinical, Isak is tipped to lead Liverpool’s attack for years to come.

2. João Pedro (Brighton → Chelsea)

João Pedro’s  switch from Brighton to Chelsea was one of the most impactful moves of the summer window. The 23-year-old Brazilian signed a long-term deal until 2033 and wasted no time in making his mark.

He debuted at the FIFA Club World Cup, scoring twice against his former side Fluminense and again in the final win over PSG, before opening his Premier League account with a header in Chelsea’s 5-1 win at West Ham.

His early influence shows Chelsea have secured not just a goalscorer but a key tactical piece for their rebuild.

3. Florian Wirtz → Liverpool (£100m rising to £116m)

Liverpool made the first major statement of the summer by securing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old German playmaker arrives as the creative heartbeat the Reds have craved, with the deal potentially rising to £116m.

Wirtz is expected to become a central figure in Arne Slot’s rebuild, offering goals, assists, and tactical intelligence.

4. Hugo Ekitike → Liverpool (£69m rising to £79m)

Completing Liverpool’s attacking overhaul, French forward Hugo Ekitike joined from Eintracht Frankfurt. Valued at £69m, potentially increasing to £79m, the 23-year-old provides versatility and depth in the frontline. His signing reflects the club’s long-term planning as they target both domestic and European success.

5. Trent Alexander-Arnold → Real Madrid (~€75m)

One of the most symbolic transfers of the summer saw Trent Alexander-Arnold leave Liverpool after more than a decade to join Real Madrid.

The England international full-back, known for his world-class delivery and playmaking from deep, arrived in Spain to bolster Xabi Alonso’s side.
