Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka has outlined his ambitions after completing a permanent transfer to Coventry City, declaring that his main objective is to help the club establish itself in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old initially joined the Sky Blues on loan from Brentford in January, with the deal including an obligation to buy if Coventry secured promotion. That clause was activated after Frank Lampard’s side won the Championship and earned promotion back to England’s top flight.

Onyeka featured 14 times during the second half of the campaign, playing a key role in Coventry’s successful promotion push.

Speaking to the club’s media following the announcement of his permanent move, the Super Eagles midfielder expressed his delight at returning to the Premier League as a Coventry player.

“I’m really excited for the new season with Coventry,” Onyeka said.

“When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals: to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League.

“I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.”

The Nigeria international also pledged to bring commitment and experience to the squad as Coventry prepare for the challenges of life in the top flight.

“I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my team-mates and bring my experience,” he added.

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Onyeka made it clear that ensuring Coventry’s Premier League survival is the immediate priority, while aiming to finish as high up the table as possible.

“My ambition now is to help the team stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can,” he said.

Onyeka’s permanent arrival adds valuable Premier League experience to Frank Lampard’s squad as Coventry look to cement their place among England’s elite following their return to the top division.
