Premier League side Fulham have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu as they step up their pursuit of the highly-rated centre-back.
According to reports, Fulham have agreed a four-year contract with the 22-year-old, bringing them a step closer to securing his signature this summer.
The Cottagers have made Nwaiwu one of their priority defensive targets but are yet to convince Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor to sell. Fulham have already seen two bids turned down, with the Turkish outfit determined to hold out for a fee of at least €30 million.
Despite the setbacks, Fulham remain keen on completing the transfer and are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days.
Nwaiwu only joined Trabzonspor from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in January but quickly established himself as a key player. The Nigeria international made 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist during an impressive second half of the season.
Fulham will now shift their focus to negotiations with Trabzonspor as they look to strike an agreement and bring the defender to the Premier League ahead of the new campaign.
