Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has opened up about handling fame, social media attention, and the discipline required to succeed at the highest level of football.

Speaking in an interview on the AySuga YouTube channel, the Nigerian shot-stopper admitted that while he appreciates the admiration he receives from fans, particularly women, he remains focused on his career and avoids distractions that could affect his performances on the pitch.

“I am a fine boy, but sport and too much women don’t mix,” Okoye said with a smile.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who has often gone viral on social media for his appearance as much as his football ability, stressed the importance of separating personal attention from professional responsibilities.

“As a professional, you have to keep things apart. You cannot combine sports with too much women and stuff. I appreciate the love, but I don’t really pay too much attention to it,” he explained.

When asked about his “fine boy” reputation among fans, Okoye jokingly embraced the label while making it clear that football remains his priority.

“All the fine boy nonsense. Yeah, I am a fine boy, but it is not something I focus on. I was born like that,” he said.

Serie A Among the World’s Best

Okoye also spoke about life in Italy with Udinese, praising the quality of the Italian top flight.

The former Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper ranked the league among the strongest in world football.

“I rank Serie A just behind the Premier League in terms of quality,” he stated, highlighting the tactical demands and competitiveness of Italian football.

Proud to Represent Nigeria

The goalkeeper also reflected on the pressure that comes with representing the Nigeria national football team, acknowledging the criticism he has faced in the past while maintaining his appreciation for Nigerian supporters.

“Pressure and talk on the internet are part of the game. Football is life for the fans as well, and we want to give them something back,” Okoye said.

Despite experiencing difficult moments and online abuse during his international career, the Udinese star insists he remains grateful for the support he receives.

“I feel a lot of love from Nigerian fans and I really appreciate them. It is fantastic to have the opportunity to play for this national team. I am very honoured and proud of it.”

Looking Beyond Football

Beyond his ambitions with club and country, Okoye revealed plans to invest in the future by launching a gym and fitness centre aimed at developing young athletes.

For the Super Eagles goalkeeper, the formula for success remains simple: stay focused, work hard, and ignore the distractions.

While social media may celebrate his looks, Okoye is determined to ensure that his performances between the posts remain the reason he is remembered.
