AC Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso is the leading candidate for the role of head coach of the Italian national team.
Following the sack of Luciano Spalleti after the win over Moldova, Gattuso is seen as favorite to land the job.
Fomer Leicester City coach Claudio Raineri declined the offer to coach the team as chosed to remain with Roma initially before taking up the job at Fiorentina.

Gattuso, according to reports, is FIGC’s preferred choice even though his former teammates Daniel De Rossi and Fabio Cannavaro also linked with the job.
Gennaro Gattuso has coached nine teams since he started his managerial career in 2013.
Having coached his former team, AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Marseille, Gattuso’s last engagement was with Hajduk Split.
He coached the team for a year before he resigned in June 2025.
