Super Eagles of Nigeria star Ademola Lookman has been backed to win the coveted CAF Player of the Year award.
Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr believes Lookman deserves to be crowned best African player for 2024, after an exceptional year.
Lookman is the overwhelming favourite to win the award following an impressive campaign for club and country.
Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, Rowen Williams, and Simon Adingra are the other contenders for the prestigious award.
Rohr believes Lookman has done enough to be crowned Africa’s best player.
“He has made a lot of progress. His difficult first seasons in England and Germany are now a thing of the past. He has managed to get back up and shine,” Rohr said to Foot Africa.
“I followed him a few years ago with the Super Eagles. He went from the shadows to the light.
“Today, he is a complete player, as effective as an assister as a scorer.”
The awards will take place next Monday in Marrakech, Morocco.
