In today’s CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations action, Ghana and Senegal secured pivotal victories, ensuring their progression to the quarter-finals.
Ghana’s Black Satellites clinched the top spot in Group C with a narrow 1-0 win over the Central African Republic at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.
The decisive goal came in the 84th minute from substitute Joseph Opoku, who capitalized on a late opportunity to break the deadlock.
This victory marked Ghana’s second in the group stage, bringing their total to seven points and confirming their place in the knockout rounds.
Simultaneously, defending champions Senegal kept their title defense alive with a 2-0 triumph over DR Congo at the Suez Stadium.
Cheikh Thiam opened the scoring in the 11th minute, converting a rebound after his initial penalty attempt was saved. Ibrahima Dieng doubled the lead, securing Senegal’s advancement as Group C runners-up.
The win was crucial, as Senegal entered the match with just one point from their previous two games.
With these results, Ghana and Senegal join Morocco and Nigeria in the quarter-finals. Ghana will face the third-placed team from Group A or B, while Senegal is set to challenge Nigeria.
The quarter-final matches are scheduled to commence on May 12, 2025.
