Ghanaian women’s football has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of 23-year-old Agartha Takyiwaa, a defender with Fabulous Ladies FC, who was reportedly stabbed to death during a robbery attack in the Ashanti Region.
Takyiwaa, popularly known as ‘One Cedi’, was killed on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Afrancho New Site near Kumasi.
According to Fabulous Ladies head coach Nana Atuahene, the defender had completed training with her teammates earlier in the day before resuming her second job as a commercial tricycle (Pragya) rider to support herself financially.
At around 10:30 p.m., she reportedly picked up a female passenger and was transporting her to Afrancho New Site when she was attacked by suspected criminals who attempted to dispossess her of her tricycle.
She sustained multiple stab wounds to her thigh, stomach and neck and died from the attack. The assailants reportedly fled with her tricycle and mobile phone.
Takyiwaa was preparing with her teammates for the upcoming 2026/27 Women’s Division One League season before her untimely death.
In a development following the incident, the Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in Techiman in the Bono East Region in connection with the murder.
The suspects were reportedly tracked through the location of Takyiwaa’s stolen mobile phone, with police recovering both the phone and the tricycle in their possession.
Police investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
Her death has sent shockwaves through Ghanaian women’s football, cutting short the life of a young player who was balancing her football career with additional work to support herself.
