Heartbreak for Atleti as fortunate Madrid march into quarter-finals

Real Madrid sealed qualification into the last eight of the Champions League after a seemingly controversial penalty shootout outcome.

Atletico Madrid won the tie but unfortunately lost the battle as the defending champions sail through on penalties.

The Rojiblancos erased the one goal deficit from the first leg loss seconds into the start of the match.

Former Chelsea midfielder Connor Gallagher scored from a rebound to put Atletico Madrid ahead in the tie.

Argentine striker Julian Alvarez was a torn in the flesh of Real Madrid’s defense all night as he forced a couple of saves of Thibault Courtois in goal.

Real Madrid took advantage as Fede Valverde converted his to put Real Madrid ahead.

Lucas Vasquez misses the chance to secure the winner as Jan Oblak stopped his shot.

Unfortunately, Marcos Llorente hit the upright with his kick as Jan Oblak fumbled Rudiger’s poor strike to give Real Madrid the quarter-finals ticket.
