Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has dismissed claims of favoritism in his appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Chelle insists his selection was based on merit and transparent.

In an interview with CANAL+ SPORT Afrique, the new Super Eagles boss clarified,
“When I left the Malian team, there was a call for applications from the NFF, from the Nigerian Federation and so I applied like any other coach and then interview came.”
He elaborated on presenting his vision, stating, “I was invited to a coaches’ conference where I presented my project or my vision and philosophy.
“In the final moments of negotiation, you felt their determination and that made me come. We were in discussions since before then. It took a while, but we were aligned on what I wanted to do.”
Under his leadership, the Super Eagles earned four points in two World Cup qualifiers, defeating Rwanda 2-0 and drawing 1-1 with Zimbabwe.
