Nigeria Under-19 women’s basketball team the Junior DTigress failed to progress to the quarter-finals of the World Championship.
Despite losing teo matches in the group stage, the Nigerian ladies qualified for the second round to face Hungary for a place in the last eight.
Despite holding the Hungarians to a 9-9 scoreline in the first quarter, the Junior DTigress capitulated in the second quarter.
The Hungarians showed superior quality in shooting and defense as they outscored the Junior DTigress by 18 points.
Only one point separated both sides in the third quarter but Hungarians edged it 16-15 as Nigeria continued to struggle with shot selections.
Hungary took advantage of Nigeria’s offensive struggles as they wrapped up the tie in the last quarter with 22-16 scoreline.
Jessica Ajayi (11pts) and Tobenna Nweke (12pts) led tye team in scoring, but their efforts wasn’t enough to keep Nigeria in the tie as Hungary progressed to the quarter-finals with a 77-51 win.
The Junior DTigress will play in the classification on Friday to know their ranking in the tournament.
