Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Augustine Eguavoen, has firmly denied reports linking him to the head coaching job of the Super Eagles.
Eguavoen’s comments come amid media speculation that the NFF planned to install him and Ladan Bosso as replacements for current coach Eric Chelle if the team fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The rumors suggested that Eguavoen and Bosso would not only take over the World Cup qualifying campaign but would also lead the team into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Eguavoen expressed his frustration with the reports, stating that the baseless rumors were hurtful, especially given his relationship with the current coach.

“I feel very hurt by these baseless rumours because I really have no idea where they are coming from. I have an excellent working relationship with Coach Eric Chelle, and I have absolutely no interest in taking over the squad. I am praying for him to succeed,” Eguavoen told the NFF’s official media platform.
Eguavoen’s statement serves to quash the mounting speculation as the Super Eagles prepare for their critical World Cup qualifier against Lesotho on Friday.
