“I’m gonna cry!” Esther Okoronkwo reacts to debut CAF Women’s POTY nomination (video)

Super Falcons forward, Esther Okoronkwo is basking in the euphoria of her debut nomination for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year.

Esther Okoronkwo shared a video on her social media page with the caption, “Me finding out I got nominated for the CAFplayer of the year” while driving and vibing to REMA’s hit track “Kelebu”

She went on to share another post expressing her excitement at the news of her nomination, “Guys I don’t know how to feel, first WAFCON, first player of the year nomination, God is good.!! I’m gonna cry”

Esther Okoronkwo is line to be named the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year.

The 28-year-old Toronto FC forward got her debut nomination following the release of the list of nominees by CAF on Friday.

Esther Okoronkwo, the Abia State-born striker has been in imperious form for club and country in the year under review.

Okoronkwo had a stellar performance for the Super Falcons en route to winning their record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July.

Esther Okoronkwo-inspired Super Falcons came from two goals down to beat host Morocco 3-2 in a pulsating final in Rabat.

Okoronkwo scored from the penalty spot and provided an assist in the final as he bagged the MVP award of the match.

Esther Okoronkwo scored two goals and provided six assists in six matches as the Super Falcons won their 10th title.

She was nominated alongside Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Morocco’s duo Gizlane Chebbak and Sanaā Mssoudy, Zambia’s duo Babra Banda and Rachael Kundananji, Senegalese Mama Diop, Ghana’s Portia Boakye, and Malawi’s Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga.

The final list of nominees will be released in the weeks ahead before the award ceremony.

Meanwhile, Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu also bagged a nomination as Coach of the Year in the women’s category while Chiamaka Nnadozie returns to the list of nominees for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year category.

The Super Falcons got nominated in the women’s National Team of the Year category after winning a record 10th continental title.
